Italian Wines need Controlled Origin Certification

Leaving out technology, in our Country safeguard, promotion and quality control on famous Italian wines has a massive importance as-thanks right to the web and to fast shipping- global competition affects quite a lot national sales; the quality of Italian wines has really few competitors but nevertheless globalization stakes a lot, mainly medium-quality Italian wines which- particularly in the lasts years- have been object of falsification by foreign companies which sell their wines passing them off as they are DOC Italian wines.

It is right the will to safeguard the quality of Italian DOC wines, which motivated many Italian consortium and the Italian Government itself to do something in this sense, making some laws and restrictions which can contrast this global tendency.

For example, some days ago in Sicily started the service guaranteed by the Institute of Grapevine and Wine, recognized as the only certification body which replaces the Chamber of Commerce. This body has become then fully operational in the service of wine DOC certification and will be based in Palermo, where the director and the commissions of wine tasting and Origins Denomination at the Regional institute of Sicily Wine an Oil, will cooperate with a secretary and with some sommeliers subscribed at the proper regional registers in order to safeguard the Controlled Origin Denomination (DOC) of the Sicilian wines famous in the world.

This safeguard system has been charged the minimum price estimated by the Minister, in order to facilitate the body work and efficiency; the work of the Institute has an informatics system through which companies can dialogite with the body and send via web the documentation necessary to undergo the controls; for the proper control phase there is a team of 25 technicians who will cover the whole territory and who will go directly to companies to take a sample of the wines, which then will undergo a control at the Institute laboratories.

Once they have passed the clinic tests, the wines will arrive at the tasting commission for the official release of the DOC certification which will be obtained after 20 days; the total time that passes from the presentation of the application to the effective delivery of the certification, is then noticeably reduced and the process itself is streamlined as it is the body itself , thanks its experts and tasting technicians, that assesses the release of the Quality Certification.
