Nancy J. Ori is respected internationally as an industrial photographer and video producer for New Jersey Media Center, LLC in Berkeley Heights, NJ. She is also a fine art exhibitor and enjoys teaching at photography workshops each year throughout the US and Europe. Ms Ori has been affiliated for many years with the Ansel Adams Workshop in California, the University of California Photography Workshop in Santa Fe, NM and is on the faculty of the NJ Center for Visual Arts in Summit, NJ; Peters Valley Craft Education Center in Layton, NJ; Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ; Somerset Art Association in Bedminster, NJ; and the Watchung Hills Adult School in Watchung, NJ. In 1990, she founded the New Jersey Heritage Workshops held annually in Cape May for photographers and other fine artists and in 1995 founded the NJ Photography Forum at the Watchung Arts Center for serious photographers interested in exhibiting their work and advancing their skills.

March 6 Workshop: How to Photograph Your Artwork, 1 session, 10am-1pm. at New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Summit, NJ. Selling your work, getting a gallery exhibit or winning prizes at juried exhibitions are determined by the quality of the slides that you submit. Daunting at first, this workshop will show you how easy and inexpensive it can be to make slides of your artwork. With limited lighting and 35mm equipment, you can set up your paintings or sculptures to make photographs that provide richness of color, preserve texture and reproduce subtle or dark pieces beautifully. Mar 10-Aug 21 Teen Workshop: What Does a Winner Look Like?, at the Morris Museum in Morristown. A photography seminar which will culminate in an exhibition at the museum for high school students focusing on environmental portraiture. Oct 15-22 Workshop in Santa Fe: Capturing the Light of the Southwest, offers a unique experience in photographing and painting the abundant evidence of three cultures-the Spanish, the Indian and the Anglo. Focus will be on the natural landscape and man-made adobe structures of the area. There will be time for sketching, painting, photography and studying the relationship between environment, architecture and people, especially time for recognizing those elements, which may effectively lead to work with insight and emotional value. Artists who have basic skills, as well as those who are experienced, will be encouraged to produce a body of pieces worthy of portfolio or gallery presentation. Fee includes tuition only. April 15-18 Painting in the Landscape with Gerry Heydt, This workshop in “plein aire” landscape painting welcomes students to a comprehensive oil painting class. Gerry will provide a structured approach to painting, selection, use and care of materials, choice of motif, composition, color mixing, drawing and blocking in a painting and expressive use of brushes and palette knife. Painting will be done on-location in Victorian neighborhoods, natural areas, wharves and beaches. April 18-21 Beginning Digital Photography Workshop with Dot Kuehn. Develop an understanding of the new tools and methods used to capture, edit, print or share your photographs. This hands-on workshop teaches you the basics through daily discussions and shoots of Victorian architecture, gardens and shoreline landscapes. Learn to manage your photos using a variety of software. Begin to understand sizing, resolution, color controls and making corrections. Printing will be demonstrated. April 27-May 1 Photographing People and Places with Harvey Stein. This workshop will provide insights into making photographs of people, the land, seascapes and architecture. The goal is to use a variety of techniques and approaches to make meaningful images that are personal and unique. The emphasis is on developing each participant’s distinctive style while creating a new portfolio of images from the Cape May area. Through daily photo excursions, in depth discussions, slide presentations, critiques and portfolio reviews, students will make images that attempt to capture the heart and soul of their subjects, whether animate, inanimate, or the environment. Evening sessions will include presentations by Stein and Ori as well as critiques of work produced during the workshop. Using the seascape, landscape and still life materials found in Cape May, this workshop will inspire any level of watercolor painter to explore new ways of seeing and creating.
