Parks in Barcelona.
In Barcelona you can find several parks, with all free entrees.
Park Collserola
Park Collserola is situated in the north of Barcelona and enclosed 8000 hectare. With 8000 hectare the park is one the biggest parks in Europe. It is 22 times bigger than the central park in New York!
The park is designed in 1976 and is situated on the Collserola Mountain, just outside the city. It is a kind of green island in an inhabited area. There is a lot to do in the park, for example cycle with your family or with your friends, making a romance walk with your lover or horse riding! You can walk to the hill of Tibidabo and there you can take a look at the Temple del Sagrat Cor. When you are walking in the park, you will see a lot of flora and fauna, but Masies too. Masies are specific Catalan houses.
When you are hungry after your walk or your cycling tour, there are a lot of possibilities to eat something. The park counts more than 20 restaurants. The park has some museums what you can visit too.
So you can do a lot in the park and it is really nice too! When do you want to go to the park, you have to go with the train ( FGC) to Baixador de Vallvidreda. It is open from 9.30 till 15.00.
Parc Ciutadella
Park Ciutadella is the biggest park in the center of Barcelona. It very popular by the Spanish people and it is from the year 1888. The park is 30 hectare big and the gardens are designed by Jean Forestier and some of the fountains are designed by Gaudi. The entrance of the park is Arc del Triompf.
The park includes a zoo, a lake, a large fountain and several museums. In the middle of the park, there is a lake where you can rent rowboats. In the neighbourhood of the lake is a big playground for children!
The park is situated in the neighbourhood ‘Born’ and is open from April till September from 08.00 till 21.00 and from October till May from 8 .00 till 20.00. When you want to go there, you can take the metro, yellow line L4 and get out at the station Barceloneta or Ciutadella vila olimpica.
Parc Guell
Parc Güell is probably the most famous park of Barcelona. It is world famous. It is designed by the architect Gaudi about the year 1900. It is a beautiful, unique and special park that you really have to see one time! You can find beautiful buildings, wonderful gardens, colorful fountains and nice flower gardens!
There are 2 beautiful plazas. One is the area of the 100 pillars. From this area the view is very nice! And for a better view you have to follow the tracks to the mountain!
In the park the museum of Gaudi is situated. This is the house where Gaudi was living, but now it is a museum. A popular attraction is the lizard fountain. Especially for children it is very nice! You can eat there too.
Parc de Joan Miro
Park de Joan Miro was used for fight bulls. In the past when the park was used as a décor for the bulls, the dead bulls were taken to the Park. In the popular language the park is called ‘Park de l’escorxador.
The Joan Miro Park exists of 2 levels. The lower level is landscaped with pine, palm and fragrant eucalyptus trees and colorful flowers! The higher level is paved and constraints the parks crowning glory, one of Joan Miros last sculptures, names Dona I ocell (woman and bird). The purpose was to settled more statues, but after the dead of Miro they stopped.
The statue is 22 meters high and sits on a simple island in the middle of a small pool. The sculpture is covered with glazed ceramic tiles in bright, basic colors of yellow, red and blue.
Parc nutural dels Aiguamolls de l'Emporda
This park is what left from the salt water bog, that ever was situated near de Golf de Roses. For bird lovers this park in the heaven on earth. In March till May and August till October there are a lot of birds. There are more than 300 different kinds of birds!
The park is situated at the Costa Brave, about 80 km from Barcelona.
Post and rope fencing marks the protected areas and the footpaths which pass between them. Most local people and tourists continue to use the area responsibly though there are a few which undermine the good intentions of others by parking their cycles, or allowing pets and small children to intrude upon the newly created sanctuary.
