Unlucky car in parking-fine fiasco
Added: (Tue Oct 28 2008)
A motorist in London thought she was the victim of a practical joke when she returned to her car to find its tyres splashed with paint. To add insult to injury, she also found she had been slapped with a £100 parking fine – although her car had been parked in a perfectly legitimate parking place.
In what must surely be one of the most over-zealous cases of ticketing mistakes, the fine was issued after her car had been moved by council workers so they could paint yellow no-parking lines on the road – and then moved back to the same spot!
The incident took place in Streatham, south London, at 8 am, with no prior warning notices, much to the surprise of the car’s owner, Tara Johnson, who took photos of her paint-daubed and ticketed car. Lambeth City Council accepted blame for the error, saying the workers had started painting the yellow lines earlier than instructed, and promised Ms Johnson they would cancel the ticket.
