Kids' parties set parent back 280 a time

ARE 4-7 YEAR-OLDS THE UK'S HARDEST PARTYGOERS? New research indicates that parents spend an average of 280 on their child's birthday party every year.

An online survey by UK-Entertainers.co.uk asked parents how much they planned to spend on their child's birthday party. Figures show that children between the ages of 4 and 7 are most likely to be thrown a birthday party, which costs £280 on average (to include the venue, entertainment, and food).

With an average of 24 guests at each party, most 4-7 year olds could expect to be invited to another 20 parties every year. And these aren't the old-fashioned jelly-and-ice-cream parties of their parents' youth. Today's children expect more!

After the venue, the biggest chunk of the party budget goes towards hiring an entertainer. Parents will spend an average of £130 on entertainment -magicians, clowns or juggling acts - to keep the kids happy.
