West Midlands Funding Available for Overseas Volunteering Opportunities

Added: (Fri Mar 05 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Charity Lattitude Global Volunteering is offering bursaries to fund volunteering gap years overseas to young people across the West Midlands, who may struggle to raise the fee required.
Not for profit charity organisation Lattitude Global Volunteering provides 17 to 25 year olds from all over the world with volunteering opportunities overseas, but has funding available exclusively within the West Midlands area, until 31 March.
Rebecca Lewis from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham has recently been awarded a bursary from Lattitude, and will be leaving in March to volunteer at a YMCA camp in Canada for six months.
In between taking her A Levels and beginning a Maths and Psychology degree at Keele University, Rebecca, 18, decided to take a year out and volunteer overseas with Lattitude Global Volunteering.
To fund her placement, Rebecca worked four different jobs, but was still struggling to raise the fee required to get her there. Due to her dedication and determination to volunteer overseas, not for profit organisation Lattitude granted Rebecca a bursary to help top up her funds and she begins her placement in March.
“The bursary from Lattitude has made a big difference to me, as I was starting to think I wouldn’t be able to get to volunteer in Canada” says Rebecca. “Lattitude has given me a great opportunity and I am looking forward to giving something back through my volunteering placement”.
Youth development charity, Lattitude believes in providing the opportunity to volunteer overseas to all young people.

“Bursaries make overseas volunteering accessible to those who may not feel able to consider it otherwise” Paul Rompani, CEO of Lattitude Global Volunteering explains. “Many young people across the West Midlands are currently facing unemployment and competing for a limited number of places at university, so Lattitude is providing the option to take a productive year out to volunteer overseas, which can enhance their chances of getting into university or finding employment”.
Applications for the bursary, available to young people in the West Midlands area, must be with Lattitude by Wednesday 31 March. For further information visit www.lattitude.org.uk or call Jo Neville, Bursary Coordinator at Lattitude, on 0118 956 2905.
