COX & KINGS ANNOUNCES THREE EXPERT-LED TOURS FOR 2008, LED BY LORD HATTERSLEY, LORD HURD AND JOHN SERGEANT.
Celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, the world’s longest-established travel company, Cox & Kings, has announced its latest trio of expert-led adventures. Former Cabinet Ministers Lord Hurd and Lord Hattersley, and political correspondent John Sergeant will accompany small groups of Cox & Kings clients on their travels through China, Cuba and India respectively, and enhance their understanding and experience of the places visited through a series of formal and informal talks.
Cox & Kings has been organising expert-led tours for several years, and the programme has been a great success. Senior Product Manager Nigel Hosking explains: “our clients want to come away from their holiday with as much knowledge and experience as possible. While the local tour leaders are experts on their country and its sites, and can provide valuable insight into the local cultures and traditions, having a well-known and respected expert on the trip adds a whole new dimension.”
Previous expert leaders have included Martin Bell, Kate Adie, Prue Leith and Sandy Gall, in destinations as diverse as Libya, Uzbekistan, Chile, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
A Journey Through Cuba with Lord (Roy) Hattersley offers the chance to experience the much written-about areas of Cuba that have shaped history, including The Bay of Pigs, Bayamo and Turquino National Park. There is also an opportunity to meet Che Guevara’s son, Camillo. Former cabinet minister Lord Hattersley will present three talks during the tour, on the history and politics of Cuba and her neighbours. Departing 12th November 2008, the 11-night tour costs from £2,950 per person.
Accompanied by former BBC and ITV chief political correspondent John Sergeant, Across the Ganges Plain travels across the plain of the Ganges river, linking memories of the British East India company and the Raj with sacred sites, ancient temples and stunning monuments. Highlights include the Mughal architecture of Lucknow, spiritual Varanasi, and the iconic Taj Mahal. John Sergeant will enlighten the group about his fascinating career through a series of talks. Departing on 18th October, the 12-night tour costs £2,995 per person.
A special departure of the bestselling China Experience tour led by Lord (Douglas) Hurd will explore Beijing, including the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, before visiting Xian, home of the famous Terracotta Warriors. The journey continues to Nanjing, capital during the Ming Dynasty, and finishes in vibrant Shanghai. During the tour, Lord Hurd will present three talks on the history and politics of China. Departing 3rd October, the 9-night tour costs £2,995 per person.
