Lapland is fast becoming Yllas one of the most popular destinations for adventure, skiing and local culture. The skiing in Yllas Lapland is second to none, the skiing season goes right up until early May and with all of the recent improvements now finished the ski slopes are looking pretty fantastic indeed. There is an abundance of things to see and do in Yllas Lapland with many organisations offering frequent weekly activities that can be part of on your holiday. You can arrange all trips before you arrive in Lapland or you can simply arrive at your destination and see what takes your fancy There is always availability where the activities are concerned and there is huge scope for planning your own trip around your own requirements. You can hire a snowmobile, arm yourself with a map and go off and simply explore. With over 300km of snowmobile tracks you will certainly not be disappointed. One of the most fantastic places you absolutely must visit on your stay in Lapland is the famous snow village. You can travel to the snow village by car or hire a snowmobile and do two trips in one. The snow village is situated approximately a 45 minute drive by snowmobile and an hour if you were to travel by car.
The snow village is located in the Western part of Finnish Lapland and is close to Yllas Lapland. The construction of the snow village is made as soon as the temperature begins to fall and is 10 degrees below 0 which normally happens at the beginning of November. Natural snow and crystal clear ice is used in the construction of the snow village. The snow village covers an area of about 20 thousand square meters and every year new ideas are used to create a spectacular sight that attracts visitors from far and wide. The inside of the snow village contains various designs of ice sculptures and new and exciting designs are developed every year. Inside the snow village is a restaurant with ice carved tables and an ice bar where you can drink from ice glasses. In addition to this there is an art gallery where there are beautiful pieces of ice art sculpture all illuminated and created by artists. You also have the opportunity to experience an overnight stay in one of the many rooms in the snow village. The temperature outside could be as low as -20 or -30 degrees but because of the good insulating temperatures of snow the temperature in the snow hotel always remains at about -2 to -5 degrees. There are many themed rooms in which you can choose from and every year these vary and change. Each bed is made from blocks of snow and ice covered with Reindeer skin and you will sleep in a warm thermal sleeping bag. For wedding couples the experience of the snow village is a unique experience and one that is magical and unforgettable. The wedding couple can choose between the ice chapel with furniture made from ice or the traditional cosy wooden chapel. Various activities also run daily from snow village, you can escape on one of the many husky dog trails, learn all about the reindeers and the livelihoods of the Reindeer herdsmen, there are also daily and nightly activities running in the ice bar. Outside of the hotel there is also many snow runs for the children along with an ice maze to keep the children and the adults more than happy. The snow village is constructed early November and is open until the following April.
