Pressbox (Press Release) - October 26 is last date for entries in all competition categories
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development has announced that the last date to receive entries for the various categories of the Al Burdah Awards is October 26th, 2010.
There are three award categories namely: Poetry, Arabic Calligraphy and Decoration. The poetry competition will be divided into two further categories: the first is the traditional vertical style in classical Arabic concerning the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his life; the second is the Nabatean style with each composition being between 20-50 verses each. These entries should not be a copy of any other and should not have won awards in any other competition, within or outside the UAE.
The second category is the Arab Calligraphy which is again divided into two parts; the classical style, and the modern one. The award has stipulated writing of the Al Busayri, "the blessed Burda poem" with 167 verses. It has to be written in both types of traditional styles.
The third category is decoration which is open to all. Computers can be used in designing but not implementing the entries in this category.
First prize winners in all categories will get an award of AED 70,000; winners of second place will get AED 50,000, with AED 40,000 for the third place winners. The fourth place winners in the traditional calligraphy and traditional decoration will get AED 30.000 each, while AED 20,000 will go to the fourth place winners in both categories of Eloquent and Nabatean poetry. Those winning fifth place in Modern Calligraphy and Traditional Decoration will get AED 20.000 each. There will also be three appreciation awards for Arabic Calligraphy, traditional style, valued at AED 15,000 each.
The Al Burdah Awards are organised by the Ministry as part of its overall strategy to encourage the love of religion and traditional art in the younger generations and to inculcate an understanding of their duties to their religion and society.
