Afghan Heroes CD Goes To War

Added: (Sun Mar 07 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - For the first time a CD has flown over the skies of Afghanistan on a mission. The charity CD, which was produced in Spain in aid of Afghan Heroes Charity, was taken up in an RAF MQ-9 Reaper by 62 Squadron. The Reaper is an unmanned remote controlled aeroplane, which is equipped with cameras and missiles and is used to support troops on the ground and is capable of flying for long periods of time and ‘loitering’ around a battle zone

The CD “He Drinks Tequila (And She Talks Dirty in Spanish) was released in October this year to raise money for the Afghan Heroes Charity. The single is sung by Charles Cole, a talented Country and Western Singer, and Angie Evans who is a popular Line Dance Instructor. Last year the group raised over 600 Euros for The Marie Curie Cancer Fund. Charles Cole kindly donated the track off his new album “Let’s Dance … Classic Hits”.

This year “Charlie’s Angels” have already raised more than 1000 Euros for Afghan Heroes, which was set up by 8 mothers whose sons all died on 9th and 10th of July 2009. Details of the registered charity and its’ work can be found on www.afghanheroes.org.uk

So far the CD has sold over 400 copies locally and has also been played worldwide. Leann Rimes the International Country Singing Star signed a copy of the CD during her Las Vegas Tour this October. The CD will be used as a fundraising prize at one of Charlie’s Angels Line Dance Addicts events.

100 copies have been sold to civilians and troops working at Kandahar Air Field. The first copy of this limited edition has been received by HRH Prince Harry, and “Charlie Angels Line Dance Addicts” who have produced the CD, have received a letter of thanks and best wishes from Buckingham Palace.

“We wanted to do something unusual with the CD, and the RAF were kind enough to take 2 CDs up in the Reaper. They normally only take national flags up, and even then not very often, so these CDs are real collectors items”, said Jackie Lawson, whose husband Ian works in Afghanistan and who arranged for the CDs to be flown.

“We have a framed certificate and CD plus one set that can be framed. These are so rare that I am sure that anyone who collects military memorabilia would be delighted to have it, as there are only 2 in the world!”

Expats4afghanheroes are taking bids upwards of £50 Euros for the unframed set and £80 plus for the framed set

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get the first CDs flown in a war situation in Afghanistan in the MQ-9 Reaper. The CDs and certificates will be coming to the UK in January 2010.

Not satisfied with taking to the Afghan skys in a Reaper, 2 other CDs have been flown by 31 Squadron on an operational mission over Afghanistan in a Tornado.

“We would like to present these certificates to people who do outstanding work for The Afghan Heroes Charity. Once again, these are unique, and both the CDS and certificates have been countersigned by the RAF pilots who were kind enough to take them up, and take the photograph while the plane was being re-fuelled. Now that is skill!
