This is a new specially designed 5 week volunteer project for over 55's. Creative Corners is currently recruiting Grandparents to work in an orphanage for 120 children in La Paz Bolivia especially to provide creative attention and care to the 50 babies under 3 years old.
There are set departure dates where they are looking for groups of Grandparents to travel and live together in homestay apartments with local couples of a similar age. Participants will have a "Cultural Ambassador", Eileen Martin, to guide them through their entire stay. Eileen, 62, a retired art teacher from the United States came to Bolivia to volunteer in 2009 for four months with Creative Corners but enjoyed it so much she has decided to come back in 2010 and encourage more people her age to take the challenge too.
These placements are specially designed to provide extra support so that the volunteering experience is easy, comfortable and most importantly unforgettable for the over 55's.
Why Grandparent Volunteers are Needed
The orphanage is a state run home and therefore lacks sufficient funds, staff and resources. Grandparent volunteers are needed to hold the babies, play with the them, sing songs, play games and help take the children outside for a little sunshine! A little love here can go a long way and the children just cant wait until their next cuddle with a cuddly Grannie or Grandad!
