Nigeria Fuel Strikes

Added: (Wed Jan 25 2012)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Ever since Monday, the state of affairs in Nigeria has deteriorated massively. This is largely due to the ongoing nationwide fuel strikes which have been organized by The Trade Union Congress, Nigeria Labor Congress and other civil organizations. The reason for this is the governments’ action to double the fuel prices which sparked fury amongst the locals. The violence that follows these strikes has led to the tragic death of 16 people and nearly 205 are injured according to the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
This uproar has also obviously caused disturbances when it comes to air travel. Although it has been reported that foreign airlines continued to fly in and out of the international airport in Lagos, delay in flights to Lagos flights to Lagos has been a common problem. Moreover many international travelers who had arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos where left completely stranded and shocked as there were absolutely no domestic airlines available to help them reach their final destinations. Most of the transportation systems from and to the airports such as car rentals and limousine operators have also been prevented from carrying out services as a result of the blocked roads and angry union workers.
Moreover, terminals at several airports are being locked down such as terminal 2 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and the General Aviation Terminal after the union strikers flooded the terminals and chased away all those they thought to be ‘saboteurs’. This has obviously created a situation of fear and concern for safety.
To avoid any inconvenience or delay and cut back on any worries, we suggest you contact the airline and airports information desks for relevant flight cancellations or information regarding your bookings. You would also be catered to in case of any flight re-scheduling and booking can be made for the next flight available.
