Comedian Bill Bailey Handed Driving Ban

Pressbox (Press Release) -
Comedian Bill Bailey will be joining the ranks of motorists facing a sudden hike in their car insurance premiums after being banned from driving for six months for speeding.
Existing points on his licence from previous speeding convictions meant that the ban was automatically activated under the totting-up rules.
Mr Bailey was caught on a speed camera last July driving a Volvo at 40mph in a 30mph area on the A390 at Doubletrees, St Blazey. He was in Cornwall to give a performance at The Eden Project.
Appearing at Liskeard Magistrates' Court for sentencing, he gave his real name as Mark Bailey and his address at Hammersmith Grove, London.
He had been found guilty of speeding in his absence at an earlier court hearing, which his representative said he did not attend because he had not received the relevant letter.
Vivian Tanchel told magistrates that post had gone missing from his home for a number years and an elderly neighbour was suspected of hoarding it.
Mr Bailey was fined £500 with £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. His licence was endorsed with three penalty points, bringing the total to 15 and activating the six-month minimum ban.
