Creative agency Remedy behind launch of innovative charity website

Added: (Wed Nov 12 2008)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A successful collaboration between creative agency Remedy and national children’s communication charity I CAN has seen the launch of an innovative website giving people the chance to exclusively own part of the English language.

The new fundraising project – www.adoptaword.com - is the third pioneering online venture that Remedy, based in Kent, has worked on with the charity.

Lisa Casson, Remedy managing director, said: “I CAN approached us back in 2006 with the seed of an idea and we worked closely with them to develop it into a full concept.

“We put together design proposals to help the charity sell the idea to one of the major dictionary publishers. Collins were really excited by the concept and agreed to give I CAN access to their database of words and definitions that we could then integrate with the live site.”

During 2008 the site was designed and built as a web application around a complex back-end database with the help of Rogue Interactive, Remedy’s web development partner.

Visitors to www.adoptaword.com can adopt their favourite words for themselves or as a gift for friends and family. Word adoption costs from £20 and lasts for one year.

Money raised will be used to help children who struggle to find words of their own. For example, £20 could pay for an hour of speech and language therapy or provide parents with practical training and advice for their child.

Charles Simpson, I CAN director of fundraising, commented: “Remedy helped us develop adopt a word into a really fun and quirky campaign. They have taken a top-line idea, run with it and turned it into a stunning website and supporting marketing materials.

“The campaign, as well as being fun, also manages to get across the underlying serious message about the importance of words and communication. When the website launched, I was so happy with the work Remedy has done that I was going to adopt ‘brilliant’ for them! Unfortunately Timmy Mallett beat me to it!”

Other celebrities have also been busy adopting their favourite words and include Nicholas Parsons ‘joy’, Melanie Chisholm ‘red’ and Kim Wilde ‘flower’.

Lisa Casson added: “This has been an exciting and challenging project for Remedy. We fell in love with the idea from the moment our client first talked to us about it.

“We’re confident adopt a word will be successful in helping I CAN and their work in supporting children’s communication.”

Set up in 2003, Remedy produces highly effective marketing communications for a wide range of companies from charities to large corporations.
