PRESS RELEASE
Christmas Charity Ball to help in the quest for
‘Phil’s Million’-
£1 Million towards Help For Heroes
The Help for Heroes London Charity Ball 2008 will take place on 15th December at The Room by the River, to raise funds for the UK’s wounded heroes. The Ball, which promises to be a stunning Gala evening at this unique, award-winning venue is part of Major Phil Packer’s celebrity supported quest to raise a £1million for the Charity.
Major Packer was injured in Basra in February this year following an incident after a rocket attack -causing catastrophic injuries with spinal cord damage and is now a paraplegic. Despite the severity of his injuries he is currently channelling his immense energy and sheer determination into helping his fellow injured servicemen and women.
Notes to Editors
After pledging to raise £1 million for Help for Heroes, Major Phil Packer has offered to complete any event or sport that he is challenged to in return for sponsorship and support to reach his goal of raising the profile of Help for Heroes and providing information on sport and disability; in this he is backed by Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave -“This is another campaign steeped in courage and selflessness. Phil, I commend you and stand in awe.”
Phil has planned to complete over 20 sports and challenges including climbing the sheer rock face of 3000’ foot El Capitan Mountain, Yosemite in March 2009 with Andy Kirkpatrick, rowing the English Channel and then completing a Marathon Distance in London on his return in the April. Help for Heroes since starting in October 2007 has raised £1 million a month to date to help support wounded servicemen and women injured in the current conflicts; in the words of the Prime Minister,
” Phil is a true testament to the determination and drive that makes the British Armed Forces the best in the world. I wish Phil and his team the best of luck in all their endeavours to raise 1 million for Help for Heroes; an undeniably inspiring story, a truly excellent charity” "http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk" www.helpforheroes.org.uk
