Pressbox (Press Release) - Children and parents can now get their five-a-day - and a bit more - from a fun-packed new series of five-star books.
Design consultant Martin Dear has been sowing and growing his colourful characters, the Fruitineys, for the past year.
The 54-year-old from Essex has now finally served up his adventurous array of ripened characters for some mouth-watering mischief.
The debut adventure, Oh Deer!, has not only entered the children’s literature charts but also been rewarded with five-star reader reviews.
Martin said: “The reaction since the launch of Oh Deer! has been extremely positive.
“The characters came mainly from my imagination but some do have characteristics of people I know”. We are sure children and adults will grow to love them.
“We want everyone to enjoy the fun filled world of fruit and adventures with the Fruitineys.”
Oh Deer! introduces young readers to a cocktail of crazy characters including a pear called William, Chunk the pineapple, strawberry Rosie, Sunny the orange and Narnie the banana.
The supporting cast of colourful citruses includes the likes of Louis the lemon and a lime called Tilly.
And there’s also the rather shady coffee bean called Charlie and a trio of Super Fruits who have remarkable powers.
As well as creating the characters and writing the first of a planned eight books, Martin is also co-illustrating the series with Sudip Ghosh.
Martin hopes families up and down the country will enjoy the winter adventures of Oh Deer! as much as he did writing them.
He added: “The Fruitineys are a lovable gang of fruit friends that like having fun and adventures, especially outdoors.
“Oh Deer! is set during a beautiful winter’s day, when the Fruitineys decide to go ice skating.
“But, they were not prepared for what would happen next, and that they would have to call upon the Super Fruits for help.”
Oh Deer! has been described as ‘wonderfully illustrated’, ‘charming’ and ‘intriguing’ by enthralled readers.
LK added: “The Fruitney characters themselves are entertaining and amusing which is sure to bring a smile to the face of a reader of any age.
“My favourite parts of the book are the colourful illustrations depicting the narrative perfectly.”
Martin is currently working on the second instalment of the Fruitineys.
