Beer Line Cleaning Can Now Be Extended For Up To Seven Weeks

Added: (Mon Dec 31 2018)

Pressbox (Press Release) - When you run a pub, bar, club, or anywhere else that dispenses beer from the cask or keg, one of the most tedious jobs is cleaning the beer lines.

Draft beer has certain enemies, and these include yeasts which may result from a minute amount left over from the brewing process itself, or they may be wild yeasts which simply float about in the air. Yeast is usually white or grey in colour and may be found on certain parts of the system that are exposed to the air, including taps, drains, and cask couplers. Moulds may also be found on the same parts of the system and are usually brown or black.

Another problem can be bacteria. While those found in beer are not necessarily harmful to health, they most certainly can be to the beer. They produce an "off" taste and make the beer cloudy. In the worst cases the beer can taste sour, even like vinegar, and can smell like rotten eggs. Anything more calculated to lose a bar customer is difficult to imagine.

Yet another problem can be beer stone. When beer is brewed the grains and water used contain calcium. In addition, salts and oxalic acids are present in hops, and these may be created as the barley is changed into malt. This combination, along with the cold temperature at which the beer is kept, can result in the production of calcium oxalate which is known as beer stone and builds up on the inside of the lines and flakes off. The flakes are usually grey or brown and may have a negative effect on the taste of the beer.

This is why beer line cleaning is recommended to be carried out once a week. However, the process is tedious and wastes beer. On average, around three pints of perfectly good beer may be lost with every clean.

BeerSaver6 is a system which uses coils placed around the beer lines which restricts the growth of yeasts, proteins, and sugars on the inner pipe surface, reducing the need for cleaning to once every four weeks as a likely minimum, but which can be as much as once every seven weeks. The resultant savings can be considerable over the course of a year, running into several thousands of pounds.

BeerSaver6 is installed on a trial basis with a monthly rent thereafter, but no rent is payable until the system has saved four times the cost of the monthly rental.
