Illuminated ghats of Varanasi to acknowledge carnival of Dev Deepavali

The Dev Deepavali festival marks that the Gods came down to Earth on the day. This festival is celebrated on the fifteen days of Diwali, and River Ganga is paid homage by the peoples of Varanasi. Dev Deepavali is marked with a huge ceremony and ritual as well as it is performed in the Dashashwamedh Ghat of Varanasi. It is marked on occasion of Kartik Purnima where hundreds to thousands of light are lit up, and it appears as if the Ghats of Varanasi has become alive.

The Guru Nanak Jayanti and Jain’s light festival fall on the same day as that of Dev Deepavali. The Uttar Pradesh tourism department initiates a four-day celebration known to be called as Ganga Mahotsav. Many artists and performers from all over the world come and celebrate the festival as well as the people of Varanasi display there culture.

Many years until when the people believed about their existence in the holy city of Varanasi they celebrate every festival in the ghats of Varanasi, offering their prayers to sacred river Ganga. The Dev Deepavali was magnificently observed last year as people of Varanasi do every year. But this year, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was accompanied by legendary film actor Anil Kapoor who added more charm to the Ghat of Varanasi. The principal attraction at the ghats was the earthen lamps that were lit in lakhs and multicoloured lights and the boats that carried passengers from one end of ghat to the other.

In the early morning of Dev Deepavali day more than thousands of people inclusive of tourists who belong different corners of the country assembled and remarked how the holy Ganga is worshipped and the earthen lamps that were lit at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, Varanasi. The Assi ghat and the Dashashwamedh ghat organised laser show along with many cultural events to capture the festive mood of people.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister arrived late in the evening after visiting other ghats and Manikarnika Ashram. Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor took his Twitter account uploading pictures of his own from Dashashwamedh Ghat. The Union Minister Piyush Goyal was also present in Varanasi said "Since independence, many big politicians became prime minister, but Narendra Modi has only done the development of Kashi. The parliamentary constituency of the PM has seen unprecedented development since BJP has come to power."
