AGI in India: India's First Ever International Graphic Design Conference at ADYPU Pune

Pressbox (Press Release) - For the first time in India, Ajeenkya D Y Patil University (ADYPU) collaborated with Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) to organize ‘AGI in India’ Conference on November 22 -23, 2018 in Pune. With an aim to promote the practices of graphic design in India, the two-day Graphic Design Confluence brought together a stellar lineup of world-renowned graphic designers exclusively for the graphic design fraternity.

Reflecting on AGI’s vision on present and future of graphic design in India, the two-day global confluence featured world-class graphic designers deliberating on the theme ‘Regional’through interactive panel sessions, captivating design workshops, and an astonishing poster exhibition.
The two-day most-awaited global conference featured a galaxy of distinguished graphic designers from 7 countries. Nikki Gonnissen (Netherlands), Taku Satoh (Japan), Dean Poole (New Zealand), Tommy Li (China), Evelynter Bekke (Netherlands), Dirk Behage (France), Sonia Manchanda & Sudhir Sharma (India) shared their valuable insights on engaging themes.

While speaking about the theme of AGI in India, Dean Poole, International President, Alliance Graphique International remarked, “Every region has its own unique cultural assets. The theme ‘Regional’ aimed to provide an opportunity for designers around the world to review how design can transform cultures for the future of mankind. For us, we chose to deliberate this theme in India as Indian Kaleidoscope brings richness through graphic designs and other art forms.

Nikki Gonnissen from the Netherlands enlightened the audience on the regional influence of Graphic Design. She said, “Good graphic design is not only about good form but creating a positive impact in the way we live in societies. For which, we must explore different cultures and integrate into the graphic design.”

Internationally acclaimed graphic designers duo of the famed Louvre Museum and French National Parks— Dirk Behage and EvelynterBekkeshared their opinion, “Graphic design can be very surprising. It is not only about design, but it is a unique form of self-expression. It is about how we can change the boundaries of our realities and open our minds to the new world
Taku Satoh, a celebrated Japanese designer highlighted that the design influences and impacts every kind of human activity - be it politics, art, welfare, technology, education and medical. He presented interesting graphics and package designs of successful Japanese brands.

Sonia Manchanda from India emphasized that design is the most powerful strategy and helps us to create new cultures and completely integrates our lives. Sudhir Sharma, an acclaimed designer focused on visual culture emerging out of magazines in the design space. He noted that Design in India is an amalgamation of richness, tradition, and handicraft.

Speaking on the association with AGI, Dr. Ajeenkya DY Patil, President of Ajeenkya DY Patil University, said, “We are extremely delighted to be associated with AGI - a world-class professional body over 500 graphic designers having its presence in 40 countries. This one-of-its-kind international collaboration will strengthen the contemporary nature of our Design Programs at DYPDC School of Design, especially our Bachelor’s in Graphic Design Program. Our students and faculty members will continue to receive valuable global design insights from across all continents, making our Design Programs unique.”

An enthralling Poster Exhibition showcasing the award-winning works of leading graphic designers and masterpieces of AGI members was the highlight of the conference. Over 100 delegates and students from India and aboard participated with full enthusiasm and gained profound insights. It was a great opportunity for graphic design enthusiasts to get their design portfolios reviewed by world-renowned graphic designers.
