Pressbox (Press Release) - Quacquarelli Symonds has released a study on the motivation behind Indian’s student’s decision to study abroad. The report which relies on a combination of interviews, surveys and focus groups which include participants from various small towns as well as large cities throughout India, highlights the role played by employability when it comes to decision to study abroad. The report also sheds light on the intense competitiveness in the current Indian economy which is driving students from India to seek to study in USA, Canada and other top ranked countries when it comes to higher education.
Moreover, QS report points out that there is a widespread opinion among the Indian youth that there is a lack of equal and adequate opportunities in the Indian corporate sector. This is the reason why many Indians are planning to pursue their higher education in countries which lay greater emphasis on quality of education and practical application of knowledge. Students who study in USA and other countries which rank high on the world university ranking are top draws for these students. The superior quality of education as well as the reputation of these universities gives a premium to their graduating students, by adding more weight and value to their resumes and putting them ahead of the line for employment
Another intangible benefit of studying at top universities abroad is that as these universities invariably attract students from all over the world, Indian students who study abroad get to automatically become a part of global alumni networks that expand their job search horizon beyond national borders. Many students also go on to take up a job and settle permanently in a new country. However an equal number of students also make the choice to return to India and use the knowledge and experience they gain to join the Indian labor market with a competitive edge
Overall the report states that the penchant for Indian students to study abroad has given them a competitive advantage which translates into a good outcome not just for the students themselves but the Indian economy as a whole.
