Pressbox (Press Release) - A recovering alcoholic from Birmingham has charted her struggles from her daughter’s perspective in an enlightening new book.
Beth Abbott’s remarkable story, Through Isabella’s Eyes, has already chalked up a string of five-star reviews since its recent publication.
Critics have described the gripping road to recovery book as ‘powerful’, ‘honest’ and ‘raw and inspirational’.
Reviewer Stephen Cooper also stated: “It was a real eye-opener.”
Through Isabella’s Eyes is a warts-and-all journey from the darkest days of alcohol addiction, through rehab and recovery.
Beth now runs a community interest company called Been There Done That which provides workshops for rehab centres, colleges and schools.
And the 35-year-old, who lives in Bridgnorth, hopes her debut book will also act as a tool for helping other addicts to get clean.
She said: “The over-riding message from Through Isabella’s Eyes is that recovery is possible.
“The book talks of active addiction, recovery and all the related feelings, emotions and toxic cycles that go with that lifestyle.
“It also talks of the things that have helped me along the way in the hope it will help it is to relate.
“It has tools and lived experience.”
Prior to writing Through Isabella’s Eyes, Beth was a successful poet.
As well as running writing workshops and performing at spoken word events, she has published many poems – several of which feature within the pages of her book.
She’s also about to embark on a sequel to Through Isabella’s Eyes following the break-up of a relationship just before its publication.
She added: “I loved writing from an early age - lots of people have inspired and encouraged me to perform and write.
“I am starting on the sequel to Through Isabella’s Eyes as my partner at the time was written all through the book.
“When it was ready to be published, we broke up.
“I felt a bit silly as one of the last poems was called my Happy Ending.
“So, I have started writing the sequel about how we live, and we learn.”
