Highlands energy expert’s book on saving money

With sky-high utility bills showing no sign of lowering, Scottish energy expert Douglas Mackintosh is offering some timely money-saving tips.
The 42-year-old father of two has been helping householders across his native Highlands to save hundreds – and even thousands – on their gas and electricity bills.
And with the publication of Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency he hopes to guide many more bill payers to make their properties much more efficient.
Douglas said Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency is about showing people crafty ways of saving money on their energy bills, in ways which will improve the Energy Performance Certificate rating, or EPC for short, on their homes.
“With energy prices going through the roof recently people have started looking at property’s EPC ratings more closely than ever before.”
“Therefore, I thought it was a good time to share my knowledge on the subject, to help people understand the EPC better, learn how to improve their property’s rating and most importantly save money on their energy bills.”
Douglas’s five-star rated guide has been described by reviewers as ‘very informative’, ‘will pay for itself many times over’ and ‘highly recommended’.
As well as including major changes to properties that can have significant benefits, Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency also features many low-cost DIY ways to save money.
The 86-page book also provides an insight into the importance of EPC ratings, and how they affect property and rentable values.
Douglas, who has been a freelance energy assessor for the past 14 years, admits that as well as countering rising bills, his other reason for writing Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency was a reaction to the many other sub-standard guides which have flooded the market since the recent energy hikes.
He added: “The inspiration for the book comes from the many other people who have written on similar subjects – written badly.”
“Many of these publications are not providing value, and I wanted to right a wrong with a book that does what it promises.”
