Norfolk writer earns rave reviews with mystery novels

Pressbox (Press Release) - Norfolk author Chris Crowther has quickly gained a loyal readership through his gripping Jack Fellows series of murder-mystery novels.
His earlier thrillers such as Murky Waters, Time Cruiser and The Water Frolic all earned rave reviews from captivated readers.
But now the 78-year-old former pilot has reached for the skies with his latest page-turner.
Having spent some 22,000 hours in the cockpit, Chris is better placed than most to set a novel above the clouds.
And his fans agree – Pursuit has been described by critics as ‘Chris Crowther’s best yet’, ‘you will not want to put this down’, and ‘keeps you guessing’.
Critic Je Boulter stated: “Intriguing, enthralling and totally gripping from page one.”
Pursuit follows the fortunes of two former World War I pilots – lawyer Mark Kingsley and down-on-his-luck vagrant Lee Vennington.
After a brutal murder in the Bronx, the Lafayette Flying Corps comrades are brought back together.
Chris said: “When a vagrant is arrested for the murder, a struggling lawyer is tasked with his defence.
“The lawyer discovers the suspect is his old best friend from WW1 days in the Lafayette Flying Corps, triggering constant recollection of those wartime days and the realisation that they hold dark secrets.
“He sets out to discover the truth and why the establishment seem so intent on convicting a shell-shocked down-and-out.”
As well as relying on his own flying experience to bring his narrative alive, Chris used stories from his father who was one of the last survivors of World War I.
But it is not only the action in the air which lifts Pursuit above other thrillers, as Chris has developed a masterful ability for crafting complex plots, memorable characters, and perfect pacing.
Chris explained: “For Pursuit I drew on my own 42 years in the flying game, having cut my teeth on open-cockpit biplanes and flown helicopters overseas with an American expatriate outfit.
“I certainly wasn't around in that Great War, but my late Dad was, being one of the last survivors of the conflict.
“And his own front-line memories were another valuable asset to the content.”
Chris’s previous thrillers were mostly set in and around his beloved Norfolk Broads.
While the father-of-three has relocated his action to New York and the Western front of World War I, he still uses the waterways near his home for inspiration.
Chris added: “I use my study for writing, but thinking plots is usually done afloat - either rowing or canoeing.”
Chris credits Biggles author Captain W E Johns for inspiring him to become both a pilot and an author.
