Trans-Atlantic trilogy ends for writers

Added: (Wed Dec 21 2022)

Pressbox (Press Release) - All good things must come to an end and the final few twists and surprises have now finally arrived in Doc & Ant’s Oddball American Trilogy.
It’s five years since American writer Lee Wedlake and English author Phil Buck joined forces to introduce readers to a mad world of rednecks, motorcycles and an alligator called Daisy.
Lee had already published ten non-fiction books on his own before the partnership was formed, while Phil, who has lectured in creative writing, has penned several critically-acclaimed novels.
Their first collaboration, Whisper from the Alamo was an immediate success with reviewers describing the thriller as ‘fast-paced’, ‘engaging’ and ‘full of suspense’.
The five-star ratings continued for the sequel, Runaway Blues, as Texan Doc and Englishman Ant got into more hot water across the States.
Now the likeable duo are back for one final showdown in the concluding part of the trilogy, Life on Maui.
Phil explained: “Lee and I had had discussions to collaborate for a while and we started bouncing around ideas. Lee was keen to do something about American history which was something I hadn’t done before.”
“Whisper from The Alamo was really a buddy story about an older American and a younger Brit who embroil themselves in a series of events as they look into the older guy’s past. From there it’s really just how the consequences of it all play out.”
Rather than any culture clash, the writing partnership of Phil and Lee allows both authors to mock their differences.
The underlying humour of both Whisper from the Alamo and Runaway Blues is never far from the surface in the concluding part of their best-selling trilogy.
Life on Maui is centred around Doc Westwood’s fast-approaching 70th birthday.
Bringing the old gang back together seems fairly straightforward for a celebration, until he learns Ant has spent the past five years married and settled down in Puerto Rico. And, at his wife Izzy’s request, the old days of partying, road trips and adventures are to stay in the past.
Lee explained: “Ant and Doc haven't seen each other in five years. But one birthday party can't hurt, surely. After all, what could possibly go wrong?”
“With Life on Maui we welcome you back to our unique take on the oddball side of American life where nothing is quite what you expect it to be.”
