“The Glassmaker’s Daughter,” a new tale of fantasy and imagination, just published by Australian author Arthur Hagopian, takes us into a world peopled by angels and shapeshifters, dragons and magicians. where the impossible becomes possible, where beauty and innocence confront ugliness and malice.
The book, lavishly illustrated by Perth based artist Jack Kaplanian, features an ogre of indescribable ferocity and vast ambition who is wreaking havoc in the land with his army of shapeshifter ghouls.
All he has arrayed against him is a miniscule troop of six led by a dragon-rider who rider has the power to control nature.
But to try and stop the ogre, he needs the assistance of a glassmaker who crafts phantasmagorical sculptures, and his comely daughter whose voice can make rocks weep tears of ecstasy.
He is also assisted by a young troubadour, a fearless warrior trained in the precepts of the fabled samurai, and an apothecary/physician versed in the ancient science of medicine.
The battle of the six against the wizard cannot be won by the force of arms: when they confront him, the only one among them wearing arms will be the warrior whose sword is no match against the ghouls: It will take all the ingenuity and purity of soul of the combatants to devise a scheme and turn the tide of the battle and avoid a cataclysmic outcome.
Hagopian has also recently published a book about his life in Jerusalem where he was born, entitled “The Cobblestones of Jerusalem,” and a reconstruction of the life of Jesus, “The Gospel of the 13th Apostle” as well as number of children’s books.
