Peter Merrett Attends The Tank Storage Association Conference

PETER Merrett, Director of Merrett Survey, attended the annual Tank Storage Association conference held in Coventry, on the 21st of September 2023.
The TSA conference explored integral topics within the storage tank industry, focusing on the manufacturing of biofuels and how the fuel storage distribution industry has to adapt to these changes.
The discussion centered around hydrotreated vegetable oil, which is the carbon zero alternative to diesel and is made from oil extracted from underground. This certain type of oil must be kept fully segregated from the current diesel storage, in order to maintain its traceability. In order to keep the hydrotreated vegetable oil apart from the diesel, new storage tanks will be needed for calibration purposes, where accurate measurements from inside the tank. It can also create the need for repurposing older tanks, with the possibility for creating entirely new terminals as the demand increases.
Other valuable talks at the conference examined how to attract and keep a younger generation in the industry involved within the storage tank industry, with conference attendees sending their ideas and action plans to each other via paper planes.

The conference gave a deep insight into the fuel storage distribution industry and its impact upon the demand for storage tanks, with there possibly being a major expansion in the future”.
