Pressbox (Press Release) - OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot will be made available via an API, allowing businesses to incorporate the artificial intelligence service into their programs and applications.

The announcement, made on Twitter yesterday, also explained that ChatGPT will be made available to Microsoft enterprise customers as a part of the Azure OpenAI service.

The service on Azure lets Microsoft’s enterprise customers apply OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models to their business applications.

The tweet announcing the forthcoming API linked to a form for interested developers to sign up for future updates on the release.

“We have been blown away by the excitement around ChatGPT and the desire from the developer community to have an API available,” the form states.

The application programming interface (API) could potentially allow OpenAI to open up a source of revenue if it chooses to charge for it.

For businesses, they can plug in the ChatGPT using the API to perform tasks such as answering customer queries.

The chatbot was launched in November 2022 for testing and has gained a lot of hype since with many people arguing that they use the chatbot instead of search engines like Google.

In TechInformed’s 2023 AI predictions, chief technical advisor for Infini8AI, Ali Chaudrey, said: “I see ChatGPT replacing Google in many ways and OpenAI emerging as a big tech giant on top of this product. It will be interesting to explore its impact on education, healthcare, and personalised software.”

It has also largely been used to help users with copywriting, editing, debugging and explaining code, and creating content in multiple languages, amongst many other uses.
