This week, Lowestoft-based company SwitchboardFREE celebrated the milestone of handling over 200 million call minutes on behalf of their customers. But it’s not just the minutes that they are excited about. It’s that this translates to capturing what would have been over 14 million missed calls.
It’s a big win for small-medium businesses who have banked £901 million more than they would have without SwitchboardFREE’s help. And that figure doesn’t include the residual income these businesses will get from consistently providing their customers, loyal and new, with a professional and memorable telephone experience.
The ethos that drove SwitchboardFREE’s launch in 2005 was to give small and medium businesses access to a free business number and call management system.

To compensate for this obstacle, Grant decided to offer his SwitchboardFREE service for free, with earnings coming from a small revenue share on 084 numbers.
As the business grew, more number ranges were added such as local and free-to-phone numbers. These numbers had all the same management features and cost less per month than a large barista coffee. This offered sizable savings considering that the average cost of a missed call is over ten times that amount.
After 22 years, SwitchboardFREEs prices still remain the lowest in the industry without compromising on service. The hope now is that in continuing to give businesses the opportunity to provide a superior telephone service to their customers, companies can grow from strength to strength as well as help bolster a difficult economy.
